I'm a wellness ambassador for the Healthy Purdue Initiative at work. In a nutshell, that means I donate my time to help staff Healthy Purdue activies. Today, I donated my time to help organize those in want of a flu shot.
I was stationed at the door separating the faculty/staff from the students and retirees, making sure they all got the properly color coded form.
I must have said the phrases "can I see your Purdue ID" & "you can have a seat at one of the tables to complete your form" about 1.4 million times. Its amazing that although there's signage for miles, in gigantor font, advising the masses to have their Purdue ID ready, that they can still grunt, complain and even curse as they search for HOURS as they arrive, without an ID in hand, consequently holding up the long line of flu haters.
God had given me an amazingly large portion of humility and patience today, it was certainly not my nature that kept me smiling and cheerly, God is good.
Ok, so today's flu shot clinic was open from 8:30-4:30, that's 8 hours. I worked from 1:30-2:30, that's one hour. I'd been there about 40 minutes, when this dude shows up and is taken aback when I ask to see his ID, "Oh I ah, well I have my insurance card" no, I'm sorry I have to see your ID. "Well, I have my driver's license," ; "no see that doesn't prove to me that you are employed by Purdue" ; "oh right, of course, well see I was driving to work today and forgot my wallet and drove home and then I dropped it in a puddle and so I had to clean it out and..."
It's at this point in the conversation as this "person" starts getting very close to me as he tells me of his turbulent trek to today's free viral inoculation, that something dawns on me. I know this overly eager to share, invader of my personal space...
IT's CLEAVE! OH MY WORD, NO IT ISN'T, NO HE DIDN'T! YES IT IS, YES HE DID!
What are the odds of this happening AGAIN, HERE, NOW, IN MY ONE HOUR!?!?!
Pretty good, obviously.
Who says God isn't funny. It was all I could do not to explode in laughter.

No kidding. Cleave was one of my favorites.
I was going to head over that way today around 2 pm, but then I got busy and forgot about it. Oh well...
I was going to head over there today too...oh wait a minute...no I wasn't...I hate shots.
Imagine my suprise when I clicked on your blog and POOF...it was so. No annoying log-in that doesn't like my too short password (please, no one try to hack me) Thanks, btw. OK, so I just now read the Cleave story. It was, as you promised, quite humorous. I laughed out loud at the fair maiden comment made by mup. Sorry it took me so long, but its a serious commitment to read a story of that length...clearly, I need help in the area of commitments. Well, now that I have commented on every one of your most recent posts I believe I shall sign off :)
