The New Year

I appreciate Lee's transparency to share his goals for 2008 with everyone...I was thinking about doing the same, but rather, last night, I found this prayer/poem again that I love and as I read it decided it summed up my goals pretty nicely without giving you more detail than I really needed to. So I'm giving you the cliffnotes version (for which you are thankful) and this prayer I hope it encourages you, the way it did/does me.

Here's the basics, in 2008 I hope to:

1. Spend each day purposefully looking for ways to be encouraging
2. Be more faithful to pray for those I love
3. Talk less, Listen more
4. Live 1 Cor 16:14

O God, grant that today I may not disappoint any friend;
I may not grieve any loved one;
I may not fail anyone to whom I have a duty;
I may not shame myself.
Grant that today I may do my work with honesty and fidelity;
I may take my pleasure in happiness and purity.
Grant that today I may lead no one astray;
I may not make goodness and faith harder for anyone.
Help me today to be a help and example to all;
to bring strength and encouragement wherever I am: Through Jesus Christ my Lord, Amen.

I'm planning on one of these posts soon. I have a couple of detailed ideas of things I'd like to get done over the year.

As for your point three, it reminds me of an old saying I picked up somewhere (I'd bet it was my grandpa, or someone else's grandpa, I can't recall) that really stuck with me.

"God gave you one mouth and two ears. Use them in that ratio."
